Four Killed in Road Crashes


LAXMIPUR, March 22: Four people, including a woman and a child, were killed and three more were seriously injured in a head-on collision between a truck and a microbus near Laxmipur bus 'stand of Sadar upazila in Kushtia on Wednesday

Locals said a truck was trying to overtake a CNG-run auto-rickshaw and with a bang, it collided with a microbus coming from the opposite direction. The driver and helper of the truck ran away immediately.

Officer-in-Charge of Laxmipur Sadar Police Station, Ratan Sheikh, said a truck loaded with sand collided head on with a microbus carrying eight people around 3:30 pm on Wednesday. Three people including the driver of the microbus died on the spot and a woman succumbed to injuries after shifting to the Hospital. The deceased could not be identified immediately. The truck has been seized.

The dead bodies have been sent to Laxmipur Sadar Hospital morgue for autopsy. The injured are being treated in the same hospital. "Their condition is really critical and they need be shifted to Dhaka immediately for better treatment', said the medical officer of Laxmipur Sadar Hospital.
