Identities of the dead workers were not known immediately except Saima (26) and Arifa (32) who were trampled while rushing to come out.
"The fire broke out on the second floor and spread to the third floor by the time we arrived the spot", Hasibur Rahman, station officer of Gazipur Fire Service and Civil Defense, told our correspondent. He added, "Lack of sufficient fire extinguishers and presence of burnable like fabric and chemicals worsened the fire."
Mizanur Rahman, the owner of Modern Garments, has said that he would donate one lakh BDT for every dead Worker and twenty thousand for per wounded worker.
A three-member inquiry committee has been formed to find out the cause of the fire and the extent of the damage. The committee is supposed to submit its report within 48 hours.
